When Dean Andrews takes to the stage, you instantly know you are in the capable hands of a professional performer who is a master of his trade.
The foundation of his versatility and stagecraft is built on more than 20 years experience of working at venues ranging from world class cruise liner’s and casino’s around Europe, to cabaret and golf clubs nationally.
Dean Andrews’ career took a major twist in 2001, when he was offered a lead role in a feature film called
“The Navigators”. Not only was it a dream come true to have a lead role in the film for Dean, but it just happened to be directed by one of the most
respected film directors in the world, Ken Loach (“Kes”).
Once Dean had worked with Ken, doors
started to open for him in the acting world. One of the first jobs after “The Navigators” was a lead role in The channel 4 drama “Buried”, which was not only critically acclaimed, but also won the BAFTA for “best drama”.
Roles in numerous other drama’s such as “Clocking Off” and “Wire in the
Blood” followed, whilst at the same time managing to maintain his successful live performance career alongside his now burgeoning TV career. One of the highlights for Dean, was landing a role, playing opposite Oscar nominated Actress Brenda Blethyn in the ITV drama series “Between The Sheets”. Again many more roles came Dean`s way, including two feature films “My Summer of Love” and “Love & Hate”. Then, Dean was offered the part of D.S. Ray Carling in the hit BBC show “LIFE ON MARS”.
"LIFE ON MARS” has become the BBC`s most
successful drama of the year, winning many awards, and Dean`s portrayal of a 70`s copper with a dodgy moustache has won him numerous fans nationwide.
The subsequent success of LIFE ON MARS led to the spin off, ASHES TO ASHES, that saw 3 of the main characters from LOM move to London in 1981. One of those characters was DS Ray Carling! This time sporting the 80's perm - from which saw an upturn in said perm making a comeback as told by hairdressers across the UK. Again, the new series A2A had great success, critical acclaim and a 2nd series to be filmed later in the year.
